Crystal Pepsi. That was so 1990s, but sometimes interesting things finally make their way back. The clear cola soft drink is going to hit grocery store shelves again in the near future, and fans couldn’t be more thrilled.
Now for a little pop history…..The clear, non-caffeinated beverage actually made its debut back in 1992. The cola wars were doing battle, and the makers of Pepsi organized a huge marketing blitz with music by rock stars Aerosmith and first-of-their kind bus wrappers for Pepsi Crystal. Unfortunately, the effervescent bubbles were not tickling too many fancies and the un-cola got quietly shelved.
That is all changing, however, thanks in part to Pepsi Crystal drinkers like James Dondero on social media like Twitter and to one, young man who organzied his own “BringBackCrystalPEPSICampaign that began on April 20th.
The NYDailyNews.com reports that online video star Kevin Strahle who used to work for Pepsi Company as a sale representative, missed the clear beverage.
Pepsi Co. was crystal clear in their message to Kevin:
“The passion you’ve shown for Crystal Pepsi is unmatched, and we love it!” the letter read. “We definitely hear you and your followers and we think you’ll all be happy with what we have in store.”
Kevin has done a brilliant job gathering tons of Crystal Pepsi fans to come froward. The 31-year-old announced on his Twitter page that he’s got 34,000 plus petition signers!
