Wanda Sykes is considered to be one of the top if not the best black female comedian of our time. Sykes begin her comedy career in 1987 by performing stand up comedy. She eventually caught the eye of stand up comedian, Chris Rock. She joined the team of the Chris Rock Show in 1997. She worked as a writer for the show and helped to create the script of the show. The writing team of the show, which included Wanda would go on to win an award for writing in the comedy special section of the Emmy Awards. Sykes also made appearances on the Chris Rock Show and eventually other comedy shows on TV as well.

Another top black female comedian is Yvette Nicole Brown. She is a popular comedian and also an actress. Her comedy show credentials include starring in Malcolm in the Middle, Drake and Josh, That’s So Raven and The Office. One of her latest comedy TV show appearances is in the animated television series called SuperMansion.

Leslie Jones is a female black comedian that works for the late night hit comedy show Saturday Night Live. Jones if both a performer as well as writer for the later night show. Jones’ comedy career also began as those of others before her with performing in stand up comedy while she was in college. She has created a comedy special that was called Problem Child that broadcast on TV on the Showtime network. Leslie Jones has also been featured in the science fiction comedy film Ghostbusters that was released in 2016.
