Stephen Murray Was More Than The President and CEO of CCMP Capital

He led the way in making CCMP Capital a major force in the area of buying out and growing equity. In 1984, he earned his undergraduate degree in Economics, and then his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Columbia Business School in 1989.

Stephen Murray’s career initially took off because of his participation in Manufacturers Hanover Corporation’s (MH) training program for credit analysts. After getting his MBA, he was asked to join the MH Equity Corporation; which was a merger of MH’s Finance Unit with their private equity team.

After a series of buyouts and mergers, MH became Chase Capital Partners. Stephen Murray co-founded CCMP Capital in 2006 as a spinoff of JP Morgan Chase, where he had been the buyout business leader. He was made CCMP Capital’s CEO in 2007.

Several companies benefited from Stephen Murray‘s business experience and acumen, as he served on their Boards of Directors. These were companies such as AMC Entertainment, Pinnacle Foods, Aramark, Cabela‚Äôs, Legacy Hospital Partners, Generac Power Systems, Warner Chilcott, and The Vitamin Shoppe.

He had become involved with a lot of philanthropy over the years. He was a generous supporter of New York’s chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a major contributor to Boston College, as well as the Lower Fairfield County Food Bank.

He was also a key benefactor of the Stamford Museum and his Alma-mater, the Columbia Business School. In fact, he served as the Vice Chairman of Boston College’s Board of Trustees. Besides this, he was also on Make a Wish Foundation of Metro New York’s council as its Chairman.
